PQ: CHEM 22200/23200 and MATH 20100, or consent of instructor. This course describes chemical systems in which nonlinear kinetics lead to unexpected (emergent) behavior of the system. Autocatalytic and spatiotemporal pattern forming systems are covered, and their roles in the development and function of living systems are discussed. Not offered in 2009 C10.
