PQ: Completion of the general education requirement in the biological sciences. Not open to students specializing in microbiology or immunology. Approximately 25 percent of annual deaths in the world result from infectious diseases. Pathogens and their hosts are involved in a constant battle, leading to the recent emergence and re-emergence of deadly infections. This course explores the interplay between pathogen's strategies and the host' s immune system. AIDS, tuberculosis, the flu, and the bubonic plaque are among some of the diseases covered . B.
