PQ: GEOS 13100-13200, or PHSC 10900/11000, or completion of the general education requirement in the biological sciences, or consent of instructor. Our focus is on the nature of the fossil record, the information it provides on patterns and processes of evolution through geologic time, and how it can be used to solve geological and biological problems. Lectures cover the principles of paleontology (e.g., fossilization, classification, morphologic analysis and interpretation, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, macroevolution); labs are systematic, introducing major groups of fossil invertebrates.
