1st and 2nd Semester. Lect. 0, Lab 2, 1 credit. Measurement of yield stress, ultimate strength, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio by tensile and flexural tests; Measurement of principal stresses and their directions, utilization of polariscope and photoelastic fringe pattern to determine the stresses and their directions; measurement of spring constant; measurement of natural frequency and time period of an oscillating object; statistical analysis of experimental data; design of experiment; report writing. Corequisite: MENG 0316.
