Analysis of modern organizations using theories of bureaucracy. Issues covered include formal and informal structure, functions and dysfunctions, and the tension between democracy and hierarchy within complex organizations. The behavior of individuals in organizations is examined in relation to the groups within which they interact and the organization's structure.
