An analysis of the nature and conditions of work and the relationship between work and the individual worker. Issues covered include the meaning of work and leisure, alienation, and job satisfaction. Selected occupations and professions are considered in terms of such factors as their social origins, how the occupation became a profession, typical career patterns, and social characteristics of members.
