Students will explore the organization and functions of state and federal courts and their relation to other political institutions and to society generally. Topics will include the decision-making processes of judges, attorneys and litigants in various judicial settings, the role and impact of courts as policy-makers, the selection and recruitment of judicial personnel, access to judicial power, courts and the media, and contemporary trends in litigation.
