First of a two-course sequence in which students learn fundamental principles of chemistry; appropriate for students who intend to major in the natural sciences. Topics include atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions, periodic relationships, mass relationships, introductory thermodynamics, and properties of gases. Laboratory experiments serve to illustrate concepts learned in the classroom. Prerequisites: two years of high school algebra, one year of high-school chemistry or CH103, and QR1.
