A survey of the arts of sub-Saharan Africa. Focusing on selected groups from the sub-Saharan region, this course considers a wide range of media giving primary attention to sculpture and masquerades but also including ceramics, metallurgy, textiles, body arts and architecture. These arts will be examined in terms of their styles, symbols, technologies, histories, and socioreligious importance. (Designated a non-Western culture course; fulfills humanities requirement.) L.
