A survey of the field of medical anthropology that introduces students to the crosscultural study of the body, health, disease, illness, suffering, and healing. The course examines several theoretical perspectives (ethnomedical, biocultural, interpretive, and political economic). Topics include birthing, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, death and dying, and other issues across the life cycle in diverse geographic settings.
