This is a level II theory psychomotor skills course that provides the pharmacologic foundation necessary for the safe administration of medication, monitoring of the effects of drug therapy and client-teaching within the framework of humanistic nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on learning the drug classification system, applying the nursing process to drug therapy along with the skills necessary for safe and therapeutic medication administration. Pharmacologic concepts, legal implications, and content related to the importance of research and technology is discussed. Medication dosage calculation, administration techniques, documentation, communication will be addressed. Level appropriate drug calculation test will be administered. Prerequisites: All sciences, NUR 129, 139, 209, 229 239; BIO 247; PSY 111; SOC 101/166. Corequisites: NUR 289, 299. (Offered Fall, Spring) Fee-$245.00. 4 credits
