(formerly PHI 255) This course examines the ethical theories, principles and applications to the field of medicine. The nature, rights and individual dignity of the human person and basic principles of moral philosophy will be discussed. Topics discussed will include death and dying, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, abortion, the allocation of scarce medical resources, truth-telling in the doctor-patient relationship, the right to medical care, informed consent and human experimentation and other contemporary problems.
