This Level IV theory and clinical nursing course explores the principles of public health nursing practice focusing on the expansion, synthesis and application of prior knowledge. The knowledge needed to provide humanistic nursing care to individuals, families, communities and populations at the local, state, national and international level will be presented. Important concepts for population-based nursing practice, including levels of prevention (health promotion, risk reduction), epidemiology, environmental health, the health care delivery system, public health policy, cultural, economic factors, ethical issues, and global health, will be discussed. Community intervention strategies will explore development of partnerships with populations and communities. This full semester two (2) hour/week theory course includes six (6) hour/week clinical experience for a total of 75 hours/semester. Prerequisites: NUR 329. Corequisites: NUR 409, 429.
