An overview of the etiology and treatment of various addictive disorders. Attention will be given to alcoholism, substance abuse, risky sexual behavior, etc., and how they affect the brain, individual cognitive functioning, attitude, behavior, perception, and the family nucleus. Physical illness commonly found among this population, such as AIDS, will also be discussed. Specific emphasis will be placed on the pharmacological effects of alcohol and substances of abuse.
