Performance of a series of individual experiments that illustrates the important principles of environmental chemistry and the actual techniques used in practice. Experiments include alkalinity and hardness, measurement of a metal-ligand binding constant, applied chemical kinetics, determination of Freundlich and Langmuir absorption relations, breakpoint chlorination studies, SEM-AVS measurements and their relationship to heavy metal toxicity in sediments, and the determination of the octanol-water partition coefficient for an important organic pollutant.
