This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of the coastal environment, its resources and uses. In addition students will learn about federal, state and local coastal planning and management issues. The first part of the course examines the existing management framework. The latter half of the course focuses on specific coastal resource management issues such as coastal pollution, coastal hazards, ocean dumping, offshore oil development, fisheries management and marine and coastal protected areas.
