Studies of state-building, community and national power, elites, the public sphere, and social movements of the left and right examined in light of classical and contemporary theories of the state. Prerequisite: Sociology/Anthropology 100 or 110, and two 200-level sociology/anthropology courses; or consent of instructor. Taught: Alternate years, 4 semester credits.
