Class provides necessary basis for understanding how we hear the world around us. With contributions from the academic disciplines of music, biology, physics, and psychology, students learn how physical attributes of time, energy, and frequency translate into perceptual attributes such as loudness, pitch, and timbre. Course examines how the human auditory system defines information it receives and how that information is processed and shaped by the central nervous system and cognitive processes.
