Course researches writing processes of women writers and ways in which their reading and responses to reading play influential roles in the fiction-writing process. Journals and other writings by Virginia Woolf, Zora Neale Hurston, Katherine Anne Porter, Katherine Mansfield, Eudora Welty, Toni Cade Bambara, and others are used as examples of how writers read, write about what they read to develop their fiction, and see their work in relation to other writers' works. Manuscripts and notes of famous works may be used to show writers' processes and development.
