A general introduction to the arts of Africa, Oceania, pre- Columbian Mesoamerica, and the Native peoples of North America. Several cultures will be chosen from each area to illustrate the variety of art forms and their function and significance in society. Major themes include the relationship between art and society, the role of the artist, the forms, materials, processes, and definition of art within the cultures studied, and how the art of these areas has changed over time. 3 CREDITS
