This course introduces students to the science and practice of community psychology. It provides an overview of theory, research and action in community psychology, which is the study and application of psychological solutions to communitybased problems. It explores the relationship between stressful environments, supportive social systems and individual and family well being to the development of mental illness. Offered alternate years. Prerequisite: PSY 101. This course develops and assesses the skills and competencies for the program student learning outcome of Specific Focuses in Psychology. In addition, this course also addresses the program student learning outcomes of 1) Scientific Method and its Application in the Field of Psychology and 2) Cross-Cultural Psychology.
