This course provides an overview of basic micro- and macro-economic concepts, principles, and methods, and examines their unique application to the regulation, organization, costs, and distribution of health services in the U.S. Topics covered include elasticity of demand, health services as a production input to health, the structure of the health care market, the health production function, provider-induced demand, health insurance premium pricing, cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis, and health labor shortages and surpluses.
