This is an English language course designed for students who have demonstrated the required minimal skill in reading English but who need more focused work on written English before beginning college-level composition work. Students will write paragraphs and short essays, review basic grammar, and continue to reinforce their reading and vocabulary skills. The course may beindividualized to meet the needs of students with a variety of linguistic backgrounds. A grade of IP (In Progress) may be given to any student who has made satisfactory progress but has not satisfied the requirements for entry into the next level. The requirement for entry into the next level of English is based on the end-of-semester placement test. In order to qualify to take the placement test, students must receive a passing grade in the course or permission of the department chair. Prerequisite: Passing performance on the reading section of the English Placement Test or the equivalent and permission of the department chair Course fee: $ 50* Institutional credit hours.
