This course studies the earth system, hazardous geologic processes, and earth resources. Models that quantify the cycling of elements within the Earth system provide a unifying theme in the course. Study of cycles of the elements makes explicit the Earth's "metabolic" processes and uncovers the facts of human dependence on maintenance of natural recycling processe s.
