Description:

History, philosophy, practice, and evaluation of noncustodial and custodial sanctions in formal social control systems. This course studies a wide range of correctional treatments such as diversion programs and restorative justice, probation/parole and intermediate sanctions, incarceration, and the death penalty. Special attention will be given to juvenile corrections and cross-cultural perspectives. Prerequisite: SOC 118. Fall.
