A study of classical Greek philosophy, with special attention to the pre-Socratics, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, and a consideration of the influence of classical philosophy on the history of Western thought. Students who intend to major in philosophy should consider Courses 201 and 202 as foundations for the major to be taken as early as possible in the conduct of their major. Not open to senior majors in philosophy. Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors without prerequisite, and to freshmen by permission of the instructor. L. Vogel
