Description:
Students read and evaluate literacy materials appropriate for children in nursery and elementary school with special attention given to issues of multiculturalism, bias, stereotyping and censorship. The goal is to integrate children's literature in a comprehensive literacy program to increase achievement for all students. Observation and teaching in elementary schools are required. Prerequisite: Education 223 and Human Development 111 or 307. Preference to students in the elementary school teacher certification program; others by permission of the instructor. Enrollment limited to 30 students. Offered first semester. D. West
