This course focuses on learning and assessment in a comprehensive elementary literacy program based on current research and practice. Students will examine national, state, and local standards as well as best practices and pedagogical approaches. Issues of social justice in the teaching of language arts will be a major theme. Students will be re- quired to participate in a three hour a week field experience in an elementary school. Six hours credit. Prerequisite: Education 223, Human Development 111.
