(2 Hrs) This course applies the nursing process as the framework to provide psychiatric and/or mental health care. Students focus on the development of effective caring nurse-client interactions using principles of therapeutic communication integrated with the knowledge of psychiatric disorders, psychosocial/stress management needs, and theories relevant to mental health. Students also analyze teaching plans used with individual clients and families. Emphasis is placed on the personal, professional and legal implications in meeting client psychosocial needs. Clinical practice is synthesized with the clinical nursing course (NURS 176), which is provided in structured healthcare settings.
