(3 Hrs) Explores the role of religion in social life. Focus on religion by classical theorists as well as contemporary sociologists of religion will be examined. Special focus on role of Catholicism in society. Specific topics may include the influence of liberation theology in Latin America, history of mission movement in Southwestern United States, Catholicism and ethnic/immigrant identities, or other topics at professor's discretion.
