This course explores the nature and role of the media in American public policy and democracy. With an historical and contemporary problem approach, we will consider how different media influence public opinion, politics and public policy as well as the influences of public opinion, politics and public policy on the media. The course uses a combination of reading, exemplary guest speakers, case studies and significant classroom participation in a largely seminar format.
