From Marco Polo's travels in the Mongol Empire to the colonizing missionaries, merchants and militarists who explored modern Japan, China and Tibet, we will read these accounts for what they can tell us about Asia, the travel-writers, and the ways we continue to construct East Asia. 1.00 units, Lecture
