This seminar will focus on the rise and fall of the Italian Fascist movement and regime from 1914-1945. It will place Italian Fascism within the context of both modern Italian and European history. Specific topics include World War I and the rise of fascism, fascism as a response to Bolshevism, fascism as a form of "Totalitarianism," the development of anti-fascism, women and the fascist regime, World War II, the Holocaust, and the Armed Resistance. We will also compare Italian Fascism to German Nazism and the influence of both on similar movements in Europe.
