This seminar will explore the role of science in art and archaeology. In particular, we will examine how the discovery and development of materials such as ceramics, metal alloys and pigments influenced artists and how they utilized these materials to create works of art. We will also consider a number of case studies where scientific analysis played a crucial role in the authentication of a particular object.
