We will examine relationships among cultural and intellectual developments and the politics, economics, and societies of North America. Authors to be read include some that are well known-such as Emerson, Melville, Dickinson-and some who are less familiar-such as Cabeca de Vaca, John Rollin Ridge, and Harriet Jacobs.
