The paintings of the ancient Greeks are primary sources for the rise of Western drawing and also for our understanding of many aspects of the public and private lives of the Greeks themselves, e.g., their mythology, funerary practices, athletics, religion, and even dinner parties. This course will examine the subjects, styles, and techniques of ancient Greek painting, and its contribution to the development of Western art and culture.
