Through an examination of Roman art in its cultural context, this course assesses the role of art in the lives of the ancient Romans. To what extent did wealthy Romans commission art that reflected their personalities, social standing, personal interests, and private fantasies Students will examine a variety of decorative arts, from tableware to wall paintings.
