This course offers a survey of American intellectual and cultural history in the 19th century, from the decades following the Revolutionary War to the early years of the 20th century. Among the various "isms" we will unpack are republicanism, evangelicalism, transcendentalism, individualism, populism, pragmatism, and progressivism.
