A selective exploration of the history of Colonial America from the early settlements through 1763. The course will focus on political ideals and practices, the emergence of a dynamic capitalist economy, and essential aspects of the cultural and religious life of the colonies. Special attention will be given to the relationship between European settlers and native Americans and to the rise of plantation slavery in the South.
