In this course, students will explore their life stories through journal writing and drawing. They will also look at contemporary artists who work autobiographically in a range of media -- from drawing and painting to video and performance. Students will be introduced to a variety of approaches and structures for journal writing and will learn basic skills of drawing in a range of media. They will explore a variety of ways in which words and images can interact, influence and inspire one another. They will reflect on some of the difficult issues that contemporary artists have struggled with in their work and their lives. No previous drawing or writing experience necessary.
