This course is designed to introduce students to the selected texts of diverse contemporary Black women from throughout the African Diaspora. Students will select from six writers and analyze the ways these writers have the human experience, based on the social constructions of race, class, and gender. Students will also choose and interpret relevant exhibitions, documentaries, lectures, performances or other distinct literary genres that locate the work of these writers within a historical moment, describing the social context and focusing on the issues manifested in the work.
