" Cultural Bridges: Art Beyond the West is intended to provide students with an overview of the visual arts and architecture of the people of China, Japan, Africa, India, the Americas and Oceania. Emphasis will not be placed on learning names, dates and titles, but instead, on understanding how each culture reflects the religious beliefs, myths and creative expressions of the people with the sole purpose of building bridges to cultural understanding. The course will include illustrated lectures, research, discussions and visits to museums and galleries in the Chicago area which house non European works of art. Competences: A1B, A1X, as, H1E.
