F. An analysis of the nature and importance of political parties and elections to American politics. Topics included are party development, party organization, political campaigns, electoral laws, public opinion, voting behavior, and election reforms. Attention is also given to other mediating institutions such as the media which compete with political parties. In election years, students enrolled in the course are encouraged to participate in the political campaign of the party or candidate of their choice.
