S. This is a study of select musical cultures of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas, with a focus on their various musical styles (traditional and contemporary) and the roles of music in these cultures. The course will make use of recordings and films, and requires oral presentations as well as field trips to live world music concerts. No previous musical training is required.
