The course explores the issues that contemporary musicians face regarding expression and communication, focusing on the way these issues have been and are being redefined, answered in new ways, experimented with, and even dismissed since c. 1950. While the course focuses on art music, there is considerable attention given to film and popular music as well. Prerequisites: Music 206 and 208 or permission of the instructor.
