F and S. This course provides prospective elementary school teachers with background needed for teaching elementary mathematics. Both content and methodology relevant to school mathematics are considered. Topics covered include the real number system and its sub-systems. Pedagogical issues addressed include the nature of mathematics and of mathematics learning and the role of problem solving and the impact of technology in the elementary school mathematics curriculum. Prerequisites: Not open to first year students except by permission of the instructor.
