S, odd years. A historical study of the form and function of visual images in the African and Oceanic (Polynesian, Melanesian, and Australian Aboriginal) cultures. Special attention will be given to the relationship between religious commitments and artistic practices within these cultures. Slide lectures and class discussions; a research paper is required.
