F, odd years. A historical study of the form and function of visual images in pre-Columbian and Native American cultures. This course will concentrate on cultural developments before contact with Western civilization, but issues of cultural interaction between Native American and immigrant European cultures will be addressed. Slide lectures and class discussions; a research paper is required. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or above. Not offered 2008-2009.
