3 hours An introduction to literary theory from Plato to Foucault. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between literature and other disciplines in the humanities and the social sciences, and how these disciplines influence the production, canonization, interpretation, and analysis of texts. The reading includes adolescent literature to illustrate Plato's views on the literary education of young minds. Prerequisites: EN 201 and any two of EN 211, EN 212, EN 301, or En 302.
