An exploration of western visual art and culture from the Renaissance to the present, focusing on the representation of sexuality and gender and the role of art in reflecting or constructing human identities. Five case studies examine the interaction of gender and visual art, drawing on the central theories of feminism, gender studies, and queer studies as applied to art history.
